Hilsch Vortex Tube

A Hilsch Vortex Tube is a device that cools air with no moving parts. High velocity air is induced into a vortex. The change in speeds of the air, caused by the geometry of the device, causes a change in temperature. CFD analysis was completed, as seen on the right, to optimize the air velocity difference to get the largest possible temperature difference.

The vortex tube was able to achive a cold temperature of around 12 degrees C with the cold end at 26 degrees C.
